Transforming Communities
through Applied Theatre
Our project aims to foster social resilience and promote inclusivity through innovative approaches to applied theater. By bringing together leading organisations in the field, we will explore new ways to engage and empower socially marginalised groups, using theater as a powerful tool for cultural expression and community-building.

Two theater companies, FOUNDATION INITIUM (LV) and MTÜ PROTHEMUS (EST), and the educational organization ÄCTIVEÄCTIVE (GE) will collaborate to create international community theater performances that engage socially marginalised community members in theater productions that involve city districts or, in some cases, also the entire city. Through this project, the partners aim to promote intercultural dialogue and increase cultural access and participation in the arts and society. The partners bring with them their extensive experiences in applied theater education and community theater projects.
Through the process of collaboration, experience sharing, capacity building and practical testing, the partners move towards the final outcome of the project: a new model for large-scale community theater projects aimed at reducing segregation in communities. This model will have the potential to be applied in other cities that face segregation issues. The model will be distributed through online educational materials (such as digital platform, a video diary and online book) to universities of theater arts and to theater companies active in the applied theater scene.
Project is supported by Creative Europe.
