"Die Stadt in mir"

Kranichstein hat eine eigene Magie: ruhige Straßen, eine vielschichtige Geschichte und Menschen, die diesen Stadtteil ihr Zuhause nennen – und alle tragen Geschichten in sich. Mit „Die Stadt in mir" machen wir diese Geschichten sichtbar: als theatralen Spaziergang durch Höfe, Wege und Orte des Viertels.

Im Mittelpunkt stehen junge Frauen* aus Kranichstein. Gemeinsam haben wir in Workshops, Pop-ups und Gesprächen Material gesammelt: Alltagswege, Lieblingsplätze, Grenzen und Freiräume. Daraus entsteht eine Route mit szenischen Stationen – dokumentarisch-poetisch, mehrsprachig, offen für alle.

Das Publikum bewegt sich gemeinsam mit Performer*innen durch den Stadtraum. Szenen, Stimmen und Begegnungen tauchen entlang des Weges auf. Die Stadt selbst wird zur Metapher: für Identität, Zugehörigkeit und die Frage – wer darf wo sein?

Through the City – Kranichstein ist Teil einer Creative-Europe-Initiative und entsteht in Ko-Produktion mit dem Staatstheater Darmstadt (Theaterwerkstatt / Mitmachen & Vermittlung), mit Unterstützung von MTÜ Prothemus (Estland), Fonds Initium (Lettland) und der Baltic Applied Theatre School. Das Projekt ist Teil eines größeren Vorhabens, Theater als Werkzeug für Inklusion und gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt zu nutzen – und ein Modell zu entwickeln, das auf andere Städte und Quartiere in Europa übertragbar ist.

"Die Stadt in mir" (The City Within Me)

Premiere: 23 May 2026

Kranichstein has its own quiet magic: layered streets, a rich history, and people who call this neighbourhood home – each carrying stories worth telling. With "Die Stadt in mir", we bring these stories into the open: as a theatrical walk through the courtyards, pathways and places of the district.

At the heart of the project are girls and young women from Kranichstein. Together, through workshops, pop-ups and conversations, we have gathered material: everyday routes, favourite spots, boundaries and open spaces. From this emerges a route of scenic stations – documentary and poetic, multilingual, open to all.

Audiences move through the neighbourhood alongside performers and community hosts. Scenes, voices and encounters appear along the way. The city itself becomes a metaphor: for identity, belonging, and the question of who is allowed to be where.

Through the City – Kranichstein is part of a Creative Europe initiative, co-produced with Staatstheater Darmstadt (Theaterwerkstatt / Mitmachen & Vermittlung), in collaboration with MTÜ Prothemus (Estonia), Fonds Initium (Latvia) and the Baltic Applied Theatre School. The project is part of a larger effort to use theatre as a tool for inclusion and resilience – and to create a model that can be adapted by other cities and communities across Europe.
